An electric bike motor is usually positioned in two places: on the wheels or the frame. Cheaper electric bikes feature hub-mounted motors which are relatively quiet. They, however, offer less performance when driven on rough terrains or uphill. Bikes with motors positioned on the front wheel have also shown a significant lack of grip on unstable or uneven grounds.
For a better riding experience, choose an electric bike with its motor mounted on the frame. This ideal position ensures that the weight of the motor is evenly distributed, adding to the bike’s stability. Consider recent models that come with sensors for measuring rotations and speed thus enabling the motor to adapt to your cycling needs.
5. Gear system
You should consider the gear system used when selecting your ideal electric bike. The typical gear systems include the derailleur and the gear hub system. Between the two systems, the derailleur gear system is the strongest and features a gear changing mechanism that helps to maintain a continuous drive.
Gear hub systems, on the other hand, require less maintenance and are dominant with moderate mileage riders and city riders. You, however, need to ease pedaling to change gears in this kind of gear system. More importantly, consider a gear system with a suitable gear range depending on your cycling needs.
